Redline Romp

Classic Coke & New Coke. Ava Gardner & Paris Hilton. The Redline Romp & every other new bike. What do these desperately disparate things have in common? Each without exception is proof positive that sometimes the classics are better, and new doesnt always mean improved.
Take the Redline Romp for example. Its all-steel, non-chromoly frame may seem heavy and old-fashioned to some, but many of those who champion the Romps cause in this market would tell you that its not old; its time tested. And its true. Whereas many newer bikes rely on high-tech materials to carry the day, the Romp is an old school ride with all the modern enhancements. Its the Six-Million dollar man meets the T-1000.
Take the Romps brakes, for example. The Tektro FX-340 U-brakes and matching Tektro 289A levers are about the best you will find in this industry, giving this bike stopping power like a dog chained to a tree. The Chromoly One-piece crankset is old-school in construction, but plenty strong because of its chromoly material, and its super-strong Alex Y-303 rims are at least as up-to-date this summers blockbuster.
So is the Redline Romp an anachronism in this day and age? Possibly, but so are .50 caliber machine guns, and no ones complaining about those. So, if you are hung up about riding anything without a forged unobtainium frame with a plasmodium crankset, you might want to reassess your priorities before someone riding a Romp makes you look like a very intelligent moron on the track.
