GT Compe
The 2009 GT Compe looks similar to the Performer in appearance but thats where the similarities end. The BMX overall is one that is built to be a street bike, very tough and with care will last you for years. It is not as light as other BMXs that is why it has been branded as a beginners bike. Well arguably it is, but it is also a good bike to build up stamina and speed. It is a GT through and through, well crafted and has some nice specifications like the rest of the GT range.
This GT has been seen with some very nice alterations such as lightweight Chromoly handlebars, Dia Compe brakes, lightweight cro-mo forks and 25t sprocket and Alienation Black Sheep double walled hubs. Modifying this bike makes it a lot lighter and will get you what you need in performance. Some BMXs are built to be tweaked; the GT Compe is one of them. The jade green is an awesome paint job by the way!
Specs = A new 2009 design with 100% Chromoly down tubing, MID size BB shell and single cable directing safety feature. The forks are 2005 GT freestyle design in Chromoly and high tensile steel dirt and street handlebars with a 7” rise designed for 2007 models. Set on the handlebars are GT Wing shroom grips which are very comfy, and the front and rear Tektro 907 aluminum U-brake system with Tektro 299A levers.
The rims are Alex G303 made in aluminum with 48 holes and 31mm width both front and rear, with steel body hubs fitted with 14mm hi-carbon axles.
Conclusion – The GT Compe is one for modification to get the performance you need. This bike is built to last with model from 2002 still being seen down at the skate park that have had little to no modification; that in itself tells you a little about the bike. If you take one for a spin the bike will virtually tell you what it needs to get some gnarly moves from it. You will have this bike for years it is that tough.
