GT Fly
Fly – Another good GT street bike for riders just taking to BMX for the first time, the frame on the 2009 version of the GT Fly is good and strong so intermediate riders will probably take the Fly and replace a lot of the parts for their individual needs.
The bike has changed quite a lot over the years, it is definitely not as heavy as it was and has more practical specifications as technology moved on. Overall this is more of a street bike in it standard form, but a quick tweak of the crank and wheels it becomes a very resilient dirt bike. This is a reasonably priced BMX, the frame will hold up better than some bikes way up the price scale.
Specs – The new 2009 GT dirt and street design frame is the obvious main component with a Mid size BB shell and Chromoly down tube, this frame is as good as some of the higher priced GTs. The Fly also houses 2008 GT dirt and street design forks with small dropouts with Chromoly 1-1/8" x 24.5mm steering mechanism and high tensile steel 1-1/4" O.D. blades. The improved tubular Chromoly GT 3 piece crank is as it says improved from previous Fly variations. You get the Tektro 907-A aluminum coil sprung rear U-brake with Tektro 299-A aluminum lever.
The rims are 36H aluminum Alex G303 both are 33mm wide, with steel body hubs that feature high carbon axles front and rear. The tires are the 2.123 inch Kenda K-Rad at the front and at the rear Kenda Konxsion 2.1 inch.
Conclusion – I wouldnt go as far as to say this is a total beginners bike, the bike with some modification makes for a very tough and agile dirt bike which sticks like glue and takes to the air like any other good bike out there.
