GT Slammer

GT Slammer

GT made leaps and bounds in 2009 with its collection of street, dirt and freestyle fleet bikes. One such impressive street and dirt bike is the 2009 GT Slammer, it is not a full Chromoly BMX but it acts like one.

For a high tensile steel bike you would expect the bike to be excessively heavy and a downright labor to maneuver. In fact it is a pretty easy BMX to put through the motions, okay the frame is not as tough as some of its Chromoly counterparts but it does make the grade if you are a beginner looking to gain some experience at riding dirt or street freestyle.

Personally speaking one would suggest you may risk you bike if you take it to the slopes. There is nothing stopping you taking it for a spin in the skate-park bowl, but try to stop short of making any high risk air. It is as said a bike geared towards a beginner, and an excellent choice before splashing out hundred on a BMX you might damage within a few months of using. So many riders make the mistake of splashing out $800 plus dollars on a high end BMX only to ruin it within 2 months then start blaming the bike. Take the Slammer home and practice with it for a while.

Specs – The frame is a new 2009 high tensile steel GT design with a 1-1/8" head tube, American BB shell and small 5mm thick dropouts. The forks are again high tensile steel GT freestyle design 1-1/4" blades with 1-1/8" x 22.2mm steer. The handlebars have a 7” rise and are made from high tensile steel in the 2007 GT dirt and street dual radius bend design, featuring GT shroom grips. The brakes are Tektro 907 aluminum U-brakes front and rear, with the aluminum Tektro 289A levers and clamp.

The tires are in the form of 2.1” GT Airbags sat on top of 48 hole-aluminum Alex G303 rims. The front hub is 48 hole-steel bodied with a 14mm hi-carbon axle and the rear is a steel bodied hub with 14mm hi-carbon axle and 36 holes and single FW threads.

Conclusion – Harsh lessons are learned by those who spend all their money on a high end BMX before they can ride, grind or 360 with air. Dont be one of those riders; it is not fair to you and it not fair to the bike and manufacturer who will get the fall out from your disappointment. This is a great bike to be learning on.
